How many newborn clothes do I need?
Newborn clothes are for babies weighing 5 to 7 lbs. Many little ones outgrow newborn clothes in the first four weeks, so you do not need to buy many pieces. 3 to 5 pieces are enough because they outgrow them very fast. During those first four weeks, you need outfits that fit your tiny baby well.
However, newborns need multiple clothes in a day because of spit-ups every now and then. The exact number depends on how many loads of laundry you do throughout the day or week.
For newborns focus on buying a few pieces.
Here are some basic newborn outfits you must have at hand when your baby comes home
Bodysuit
Baby bodysuits come in both long-sleeved and short-sleeved styles.
You need 5 bodysuits for the newborn mix, both short and long-sleeved.

Pajamas are available in two types: footless and footed.

Baby beanies help protect the head and keep the head and ears warm.
Buy three, but before you buy, check your long-sleeved bodysuits or pajamas to see if they have convertible mitten cuffs.

Factors to consider when deciding how many baby clothes I need
- Laundry
The number of clothes you need depends on how often you plan to do laundry. To know the exact number of clothes you need before laundry, look to estimate the number of each type of clothes you go through each day, and multiply by the number of clothes you want to go through before doing laundry.
For instance every day you go through 3 bodysuits and you do laundry after two days you need 6 of them
- Weather
When you are buying baby clothes consider the season.
If it is winter you need warm clothes like thick sleepers. Hot season a bodysuit can do.
